About Chefs on Fire
It’s no coincidence that Europe’s best gastronomic festival has such an authentic atmosphere—it was born out of family history.
It all began when Gonçalo Castel-Branco, executive producer of Chefs on Fire, agreed to his sister’s request to organise her birthday party. The setting was a house in the Alentejo, with a kitchen that was far too small. Looking at the outside of the house, Gonçalo eventually found the solution.
The next day, at four in the morning, he lit a fire on the ground, dug a hole in the earth to bury some vegetables, and hung meat and pineapples from the branches of a cork oak. He always believed that the fire would do the rest. The result: a memorable feast, shared amongst friends around a large bonfire.
Inspired by this atmosphere of conviviality, camaraderie and generosity, Chefs on Fire was born: an innovative concept that invites the best national and international chefs to cook over an open fire in unique locations, all accompanied by the finest soundtrack from emerging artists.

There’s no rush. Seriously, there isn’t.
The food isn’t going anywhere. The music isn’t going anywhere. And neither are the people.
There’s always one more drink. One more chat. Someone else you know from previous years, or someone you’ll meet today and who’ll be a regular by next year.
No one stays a stranger here for long. That’s just the nature of the place.
The chefs are friends with one another, and you can see that. There’s a sense of camaraderie. There’s a light-heartedness. There’s the ease of someone who’s at home. And so are you. From the moment you walk in.
Goodbye, stranger?
No. There are no strangers around here. Just people who haven’t stayed long enough yet.
Stay a little longer.
